If you’re searching for a unique soundtrack to accompany your Christmas morning, Barbie star Ryan Gosling, alongside composers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, has unveiled Ken The EP.

Featuring four tracks, the EP includes the original and potentially Oscar-nominated “I’m Just Ken” from this year’s highest-grossing film, Barbie. In addition to the original, three remixes are included: “I’m Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie),” “I’m Just Ken (In My Feelings Acoustic),” and “I’m Just Ken (Purple Disco Machine Remix).”

While it may not be a Dead Man’s Bones reunion, the EP promises to offer a unique musical experience. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Barbie director and co-writer Greta Gerwig shared insights into the origin of the song, stating, “I think if I had said, ‘I want you to sing and dance in this movie,’ [Gosling] would not have necessarily done that for me. But it was kind of that thing of boiling a lobster.”

Gerwig continued, “Mark Ronson talked a lot about glam-rock and Meat Loaf and the drama of that kind of song. And then Mark and his songwriting partner Andrew Wyatt wrote ‘I’m Just Ken.’ They didn’t even have all the lyrics. They just had a feeling and the skeleton and the lyric ‘I’m just Ken,’ and it just evolved from there.”

The EP is now available for listening, providing a festive and unexpected addition to the holiday season.
