Future Islands, the Baltimore-based band, has unveiled their poignant new single titled “Deep In The Night“. This release marks their first material since “King Of Sweden“, a standalone track from last year. Prior to that, they introduced “Peach” in 2021, following their sixth studio album As Long As You Are (2020).
The latest offering, “Deep In The Night“, presents a moody and atmospheric ballad, capturing the band’s signature emotive style. Although it remains uncertain whether the song will be part of a forthcoming full-length album, it carries the band’s characteristic sound and emotional depth.
Frontman Samuel T Herring delivers heartrending lyrics over glistening synths and a steady processed drum beat, singing, “Deep in the night, you know, I miss you more when I’m stuck inside. This room without you, and you’re still asleep. I’m like a prowling lion that’s seeking pride when the morning finds you.”
The chorus of the song portrays a declaration of love, with Herring proclaiming, “I belong to you, I belong to you. When you take my hand, I understand where you end and that’s where I began.”

The release is accompanied by a black-and-white music video, directed and edited by Albert Birney, featuring Future Islands performing the romantic ballad in silhouette.
The band is set to perform as part of the Wider Than Pictures concert series in Dublin on August 24. They’ll also make appearances at the Connect Festival in Edinburgh and the End of the Road Festival in Dorset. Additionally, Future Islands will support Noel Gallagher‘s High Flying Birds in Manchester, followed by their own headline shows in Middlesbrough, Cambridge, Norwich, and Wolverhampton.
The album, while possibly not as hit-laden as its predecessor, offers a refreshing and unique perspective, prompting contemplation of existential questions.
