Stephen Wrabel, popularly known as Wrabel, has released a stirring new music video for his song “the village,” featuring the talents of the UK dance group, UNITY. Based in Los Angeles, the singer-songwriter is known for his deeply emotive and resonant pieces. In this latest venture, he collaborates with UNITY, who gained fame from their semi-final performance in the 16th series of Britain’s Got Talent.
The music video sees UNITY members each recounting their experiences of societal treatment. This poignant collaboration brings a fresh wave of energy to the song, originally released in 2017, and featured on Wrabel’s 2019 live album, “One Nite Only”. Stephen Wrabel and Drew Pearson co-wrote this piece, which continues to resonate profoundly with its listeners.
Describing the importance of “the village” to Billboard in 2017, Wrabel confessed, “This song is the most important thing to me that I have ever done and probably will ever do. It’s the closest thing to my heart. I came out as gay around 23 into a church in Los Angeles that told me I could and should change; that I was unnatural and wrong. I hope this reaches anyone in need of it and makes them feel like they’re not alone.”
The performance of “the village” by UNITY on Britain’s Got Talent first introduced their partnership. Sharing his response to their performance, Wrabel posted, “i can’t put into words how beautiful UNITY’s performance was on Britain’s Got Talent…this song came out in 2017 and continues to live its life in such an incredible way…to see it still out in the world and still reaching people years and years later absolutely floors me… UNITY my whole heart to you all <3. to all of the colorful birds out there, there’s nothing wrong with you. it’s true, it’s true.”
