Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is getting a new villain and it’s the ‘70s Disco rascal Hypno-Hustler. The infamous fictional character is known for using his musical influence to rob his audiences. American actor, writer, comedian, director, and producer Donald Glover is set to star and produce the upcoming project.
The rapper and singer, who is also known as Childish Gambino will play the role of Hypno-Hustler in the anticipated live action film. Eddie Murphy’s son, Myles Murphy, is to write the untitled project based on the villain created by Bill Mantlo, who is known for creating Rocket Raccoon.
Hypno-Hustler’s real name was Antoine Delsoin, the leader of a band called the Mercy Killers. The villain first appeared in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man No. 24 in 1978, inspired by the rising disco music scene.
Using hypnosis technology in his instruments in order to rob his audiences, Hypno-Hustler isn’t one of the most loved villains in the universe. But Glover, who was attracted to the musical aspect of the character, is keen on bringing an interesting interpretation. Details of the film and the release date haven’t been disclosed yet, but the movie promises a lot of potential.
This isn’t the first time Glover steps into the Spider-Man universe. He has previously starred as Prowler in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. The talented actor has been continuously expanding his on-screen presence and earning new and interesting roles like the forthcoming Prime Video adaptation of Mr. & Mrs. Smith alongside Maya Erskine.
