After months of hints, Katy Perry officially began the countdown to KP6 on Monday, June 17. She announced that the first single from her upcoming sixth album, “Woman’s World,” will be released on July 11. The announcement came with a brief snippet of the powerful pop song and the single’s striking cover art, shot by British photographer Jack Bridgland. The photo shows Katy Perry in a revealing white bikini, with metallic pegasus legs and her arms nestled in her voluminous black hair. “Woman’s World” will be available at 7 p.m. ET on July 11, with the music video debuting the next day.
Perry also shared a 15-second preview of the song on Monday morning. In the clip, she poses and flips her hair while wearing the outfit from the single cover, complemented by a chunky necklace, and sings, “Sexy, confident, so intelligent/ She is heaven-sent, so soft, so strong,” over an upbeat electro pop rhythm.
At the time of writing, no additional details about Perry’s sixth full-length studio album, the follow-up to 2020’s Smile, were available. Last month, Katy Perry began building anticipation for her new era by updating her social media profile picture to a sleek, futuristic silver logo with her initials inside parentheses.
In April, Perry told Access Hollywood that her next album would be one of her happiest records to date. “I have yet to make a record from a place of feeling really happy, whole, and full of love,” she said. “Some artists think it’s boring to create music from a happy place, but this album is bright, joyful, fun, and celebratory.”
During her Las Vegas residency show last August, Katy Perry told the audience, “If you can’t love me at my Witness and Smile era, then you can’t love me in my KP6 era.” Technically, the upcoming album is Perry’s seventh, though her 2001 debut LP, Katy Hudson, was released under her birth name and had a Christian rock theme, different from her major label albums.
