Karol G Continues Her Reign with Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season)

Karol G is undeniably making 2023 her year. Following her achievement of having her fourth studio album Mañana Será Bonito become the first all-Spanish-language album by a female artist to claim the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart back in March, the Colombian artist has recently created history again. This time, she made headlines as the first Latina to headline the iconic Lollapalooza music festival. Seizing upon this wave of success, Karol G has dropped her fifth album right in the midst of her triumphant US stadium tour.

Titled Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season), this album serves as a complementary piece to her previous March release. The addition of “Bichota Season” to the title points towards her signature confidence and swagger. The term “bichota”, previously introduced by Karol G in her 2020 reggaeton track, encapsulates feelings of empowerment, daring, and self-confidence.

Containing ten tracks that span just over half an hour, Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season) is slightly shorter than its predecessor in runtime. However, the quality remains consistently high. The album features Karol G‘s melodic vocals seamlessly merging with lively reggaeton rhythms on tracks like “Oki Doki“. She collaborates with Puerto Rican rising star Young Miko for the empowering anthem “Dispo“, and teams up with Mexican singer-rapper Peso Plumo for the captivating midtempo track “Qlona“. Notably, “Una Noche en Medellín (Remix)” stands out as a collaboration with Chilean singer Cris Mj and fellow Colombian superstar Ryan Castro, highlighting Karol G’s adaptability as a collaborator.

Karol G shines on the dreamy duet “Me Tengo Que Ir” alongside alt-R&B singer Kali Uchis. The album also pays tribute to Mexican-American icon Selena with “Mi Ex Tenía Razón“, infusing tejano influences into the mix. The emotional Latin trap hit single “S91“, inspired by a Bible verse the singer learned from her mother, showcases Karol G’s supple vocals.

The only track that stands out as slightly divergent from the rest is the final offering, “Provenza (Remix)“. In collaboration with Dutch DJ-producer Tiësto, the breezy Afrobeats of Karol G’s 2022 hit “Provenza” undergoes a transformation into an energetic EDM anthem. While its style may differ from the album’s overall vibe, it still adds a fun element and highlights Karol G’s versatility as an artist. This testament reaffirms that her “bichota season” is far from over, as she continues to shine brightly in the music world.
