America’s sweetheart, Lana Del Rey, drops another single from her much-awaited ninth studio album: Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. Following “A&W” and the record’s title track, the singer-songwriter returns with “The Grants,” the opening song of the LP, which is to be released via Interscope and Polydor Records.
Born as Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, Del Rey’s new song is inspired by her family name. Written by Mike Hermosa and Lana herself, the track features backing vocals from Melodye Perry, Pattie Howard, and Shikena Jones. “The Grants” holds memories of the artist’s late grandmother and her niece.
She sings: “So you say there’s a chance for us/ Should I do a dance for once?/ You’re a family man, but/ But/ Do you think about Heaven?/ Oh-oh/ Do you think about me?/ My pastor told me “When you leave, all you take/ Uh-huh, is your memories”/ And I’m gonna take minе of you with me.”
The new album includes 13 tracks among which are “Fingertips,” “Candy Necklace,” and “Margaret (feat. Bleachers),” a song dedicated to frequent collaborator; Jack Antonoff’s fiancée, the actor Margaret Qualley.
In addition to Jack Antonoff, Lana Del Rey has collaborated with many acclaimed artists for this record, including Drew Erickson, Zach Dawes, Jon Batiste, Father John Misty, Tommy Genesis, and Laura Sisk.
Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd follows Del Rey’s Blue Banisters and is set to come out March 24. Pre-Order here.
