Everything But the Girl Release Video for “Run a Red Light”: Latest From Fuse

Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn of Everything But the Girl return with another single from their upcoming album Fuse. The song is called “Run a Red Light” and comes with an accompanying music video directed by Charlie Di Placido. Starring talented dancers Vanessa Pang and Samuel Caleb Baxter, the visuals are cinematographed by Brandon Quan.

In the lyrics, Thorn sings: “Forget the losers, forget the morning/ Put a tune on, and put your feet up/ It was my idea, I hope you know that/ We’re gonna have this, I’m the one now/ Run a red light/ Forget the morning/ This is tonight.”

When speaking of how he came up with the idea for the song, Watt says: “I met a lot of characters during my years in clubland, and I wrote this song about the guy at the end of the night, who dreams his big moment is just around the corner. All the bravado and good intentions masking the vulnerability.”

As for the video, Thorn added that it is “like a dream of the story.” She continued: “We’ve found with this record that choreography can express the emotion in our music without having to be too literal. The characters, the clothes, the movement, the direction all just fit. Charlie and his team really get the feelings we’re going for. It’s been a great collaboration.”

Fuse is the follow-up to 1999’s Temperamental. In addition to “Run a Red Light,” it includes the previously released singles, “Caution to the Wind” and “Nothing Left to Lose.” The record is due out April 21.
