How Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Part Affected The Humour In Scream 6

Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Scream 6 have hinted that Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday character would be referenced in the next slasher sequel. In Scream 6, which follows Ghostface’s triumphant comeback to the big screen last year, a plethora of fresh victims will try to identify yet another copycat murderer.

Sam Carpenter will once again be played by Melissa Barrera, while Tara Carpenter will once again be played by Ortega. In Scream 6, the siblings and their pals will go to a brand-new setting as they try to avoid yet another spate of gory Ghostface killings.

After becoming the lead in Wednesday, Netflix’s new Addams Family-inspired series, Ortega has seen her star increase over the brief period between Scream (2022) and Scream (6). Now, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett, the filmmakers of Scream 6, have hinted that Ortega’s breakthrough performance truly impacted this future horror film.

In response to a question about whether Scream 6’s metro scene has a Wednesday easter egg, the two teased that while “there is Addams Family…” mentioned inside the film, the subway scene doesn’t. Look at the quote from the filmmakers below:

Not in the subway, but there is Addams Family… So much of the tone and the fun of what this movie is, we think, is that all this crazy sh*t’s happening, but at any moment somebody wearing a ridiculous costume could walk through the shot. That for us is Scream in a nutshell. That the real world can enter and exit this really terrifying experience at any moment. And being in New York on Halloween, there were just so many opportunities for that.
