Disney+ will stream an original documentary about American comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer, Stan Lee, in 2023. Marvel shared a teaser on the 100th anniversary of the legendary creator, who rose to prominence with Timely Publications, later becoming Marvel Comics.
Marvel Entertainment announced the release with a video and a caption that says, “100 years of dreaming. 100 years of creating. 100 years of Stan Lee. Stan Lee, an Original documentary, is streaming 2023 on Disney+.” The company has named the project by the publisher’s name; Stan Lee, who passed away in November 2018 at the age of 95.
Disney CEO Bob Iger stated, “Stan Lee was as extraordinary as the characters he created. A superhero in his own right to Marvel fans around the world, Stan had the power to inspire, to entertain and to connect. The scale of his imagination was only exceeded by the size of his heart.”
To celebrate the legacy he left behind, which includes iconic characters such as Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Black Panther, Hulk, X-Men, Thor, Silver Surfer, Ant-Man, Nick Fury and others, Marvel signed a 20-year deal with Stan Lee Universe and sealed a deal that licenses “the name and likeness of Lee to use in films, television projects, Disney theme parks and more.”
