South-London Musician Duval Timothy Introduces “Mutate” From New LP ‘Meeting With a Judas Tree’

Multi-disciplinary artist Duval Timothy shares the new single “Mutate,” from his upcoming album Meeting With a Judas Tree.  The 6-track record is set to be released November 11 via Carrying Colour and features Yu Su, Fauzia, and Lamin Fofana.

The London-based pianist recorded Meeting With a Judas Tree between South London, Spoleto,Italy, and Freetown, Sierra Leone. Timothy wrote the record inspired by earth and nature,  “While making this record, I wanted to explore what the natural environment means personally. I went on many trips into nature to engage with plant life and natural materials.”

Duval made field recordings with his phone, documenting various birds, insects, monkeys, bats, plants, trees, and stones. He admits that sounds from nature have been added to the record, “I found incredible examples of nature in all of these contexts, which I felt personally close to.”

Meeting With a Judas Tree follows Timothy’s 2020 album Help and last year’s collaborative LP Son with Rosie Lowe.  He has also showcased his producing skills on Kedrick Lamar’s latest Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.
