He took Instagram to make it official. With an image of him doing what he loves most and does best accompanied with a big bold “Thank You,” he wrote in detail about why he has taken this decision and what the future holds for him.
According to Bndestem, his exact diagnosis is intestinal ischemia, which is a painful condition that causes restriction of blood flow to your gastrointestinal tract.
“I have to stop, unfortunately. Tests have shown that I suffer from gastrointestinal ischemia. That means that my stomach doesn’t get enough blood during sports. It must have crept in over the last few years, but since this year I’ve also had a lot of stomach pain during intensive training sessions,” Hofland said.
