Rebel Wilson, the star of the 2012 smash film Pitch Perfect, says that she was unable to lose any weight because of the terms of her contract. The lead role of Beca, a freshman who joins her university’s all-girls singing group, The Bellas, in the popular music is played by Anna Kendrick. Wilson co-stars in the film as a character titled Fat Amy. Wilson would return for Pitch Perfect 2 and Pitch Perfect 3 in 2015 and 2017, respectively.
Wilson says that her contract for the Pitch Perfect franchise forbade her weight from changing during a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
While she adored her time portraying the role of Fat Amy and other similar roles, the actor, who disclosed last year that she shed over 80 pounds, reveals that she was interested in getting healthy and avoided being “pigeonholed” into particular sorts of characters. Wilson’s complete statement on her plan to slim down is included below.
“I did wait until ‘Pitch Perfect’ seemed like it was over. I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight because it was in the contracts for that movie. You can’t lose — I think it’s not more than 10 pounds or gain more than 10 pounds. You have to kind of stay at the weight. It’s in your contract. I was thinking for awhile that I’d like get healthier. I was stereotyped in playing that fat, funny friend, which is so hard because I love those roles. I love doing the roles, I love those characters. But then I did want to do more things, but I felt like being the bigger girl, you’re just more pigeonholed.”
