Artist, songwriter and producer Jill Blutt has released a new single titled “Heaven.” This latest track examines how loneliness may spiral into something more obsessive over time. Heaven is a cinematic “anti-love song” with instrumentation by Jesse Blum and was co-produced with Eben D’Amico. It has snappy analog sounds and a sweetness that rightly borders on saccharinity.
Heaven is Blutt’s evidence of having “perfect[ed] the art of the bummer tune” and advanced to the art of the Bummer Anthem,” drawing from a diverse range of inspirations ranging from Imogen Heap to Grace Ives.
Jill’s music updates the poeticism of lyrical idols like Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, and Elliott Smith against a current musical backdrop. It combines melancholic dream pop components with a dash of muck and mud. What emerges is a timeless, sentimental love letter to loneliness in human existence—the ideal background music for reflectively gazing out the window on your drive home from the club at five in the morning.
