Congratulations on releasing “Baby I’m Good”! We loved the single! Tell us more about the inspiration behind this track. Is it something you had to live through?
THANK YOU!! I think during the journey of life almost everyone including myself at some point has dealt with a tough breakup. What this song embodies is the internal struggle everyone deals with during the grieving phase of a breakup where you keep telling yourself you’re okay and will be fine on your own but sometimes your emotions and actions don’t align with your thoughts.
Why DJ 5 Day Forecast? What inspired such a stage name?
Back in college I used to always DJ the college parties and the day of the parties I used to always get texts from friends asking what music I was playing that night. I used to always respond that it depends on the 5 Day Forecast and my one friend said that if I ever become a real DJ that should be my DJ name and here we are today 😊. What the 5 Day Forecast name means to me on the production side is exploring my 5 favourite sub-genres of EDM at any given time. The 5 I’ve chosen to focus on are Tropical House, Progressive House, Tech House, Dubstep and Future House. My musical direction on future releases will be determined on my overall feeling, time of year, and personal life etc.
When creating music, do you find you rely more on your own preferences or what the public would enjoy?
I would say it’s a good 50/50 of each. I always make music first for myself and based off of sounds and songs I like but at the same time I try and organise and craft music in a way that I think people will respond to on a global level.
Tell us a bit about your childhood and adolescence years and how you began producing, performing and writing music.
Ever since I was a young kid I always loved music and the way it made me feel. I grew up in a family where the radio was always on and the record player was constantly playing. As I got older, I felt like I wanted to give people that same feeling back I got when listening to music so naturally DJing was a perfect segway to this. After a few years of DJing, I wanted to make my own mark on the music industry. I told myself that I would leave behind a catalogue of original music that was timeless which led me to production.
Who is your number one fan/supporter?
It’s a tie between my mom and my wife! I wouldn’t be able to do what I do and move a million miles an hour without the support of my wife and I’m grateful for that. My mom is the ultimate fan and likes every post, wears my merch all the time and loves what I do.
What is the most exciting collab you’ve had so far? Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
The most exciting collab is actually my next single which I can’t talk about just yet because I’m still waiting for all the pieces to come together and be finalised! I would love to collab with James Hype, Porter Robinson, Kygo and Illenium to name a few.
What’s next for DJ 5 Day Forecast?
Just continue to release music and work on my debut EP which I’m hoping to have out by Spring/Summer of 2023. I’d love to start travelling more and playing more shows across the world and just continue to build the momentum and hopefully get on a label that sees my vision!
What is your one piece of advice to someone who is just starting out as a producer-songwriter?
Trust the process, there’s a lot of ups and downs within this industry and whenever one door closes another door opens. Be strategic with who you partner with and keep your circle small and operate like a family. Lastly, focus heavily on high quality and engaging content for your brand on social media
