Shawn Mendes stars as Lyle alongside Javier Bardem who plays the role of Hector Valenti. Also, joining the star-studded cast is Brett Gelman as Mr. Grumps, Constance Wu and Scoot McNairy as Mr. and Mrs. Primm, and Stranger Things’ Winslow Fegley as Josh.
Directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon, the adaptation of American author Bernard Waber’s 1965 children’s book was written by Will Davies. In the trailer, Lyle is seen spreading his magic onto the Primm family with his talent, kindness, and vibrant energy. Speck gave some details on how they modeled Lyle’s character based on Shawn Mendes, “We recorded him in a booth and we did it throughout the whole process and we actually filmed Shawn’s singing so that the animators have a sense of the personality, because Lyle is very much Shawn’s kind of personality, which is sort of like this gentle genius.”
Mendes introduces the official trailer of Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, showing a glimpse of the original title track “On top of the world, tonight,” written by the Canadian pop star himself. Released via Sony Pictures, the preview also features Mendes’ superhit “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.” The live-action musical comedy film is set to be released on October 7, 2022.
