Viola Davis, award-winning actress, and producer, will receive the 2022 Women In Motion Award from Kering Group and the Cannes Film Festival.
Davis is presently starring in Showtime’s “The First Lady,” in which she portrays Michelle Obama – the previous first lady of the United States. She also just released her autobiography, “Finding Me,” which she worked on during the lockdown and describes her formative experiences in a poor neighborhood in Saint Matthews, South Carolina. The book, which has quickly become a blockbuster, also addresses the harassment and abuse that the most vulnerable members of society suffer.
Accordingly, the award’s organizers commended Davis “for her playing roles and devotion to the rights of women and minorities,” naming her “one of the most prominent American actors and producers of her time” in a statement.
