Celebrate Black Style at the 2025 Met Gala

The 2025 Met Gala is shaping up to be a groundbreaking celebration of culture and style, with the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. This theme, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s influential 2009 book Slaves to Fashion, will explore the sartorial contributions of Black men throughout history, from the 1700s to the present. The accompanying exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will trace the evolution of Black dandyism, a movement defined by self-expression, elegance, and resistance to societal norms.

The Gala’s co-chairs—Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams—are set to steer the event toward a celebration of personal style that reflects both cultural pride and creativity. With NBA legend LeBron James as honorary chair, the lineup reflects the influence of Black men in fashion, music, and sports, all of whom use their visibility to make bold statements through clothing.

Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton and Pharrell Williams will co-chair this year's Met Gala, marking the first time the four men have been selected for the evening's duties.

The dress code, Tailored for You, encourages guests to embrace their personal style in ways that pay homage to the tradition of Black dandyism. Expect to see bold suiting choices, from jazz-inspired zoot suits to vibrant, African-influenced designs. Attendees are invited to reinterpret classic menswear with a modern, individualized twist, adding hats, canes, brooches, and pocket squares that reflect their unique identities.

This Met Gala is a celebration of fashion, also a recognition of how Black men have used style as a tool of empowerment and resistance. From the elegance of W.E.B. Du Bois to the vibrancy of contemporary artists, the night will honor the enduring legacy of Black style.

In 2025, the Met Gala will be more than a red carpet event. It will be a moment to celebrate the artistry and influence of Black menswear and its role in shaping cultural identity.
