King Gizzard & The Wizard Reveal New Album 'Phantom Island'

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will release their 27th studio album, Phantom Island, on June 13, 2025, via their label p(doom) Records. This highly anticipated album marks a bold shift into orchestral rock, shifting from their previous record, Flight b741, but with a more laidback, symphonic sound. The band’s collaboration with British composer Chad Kelly yields lush orchestral arrangements that complement their signature blend of psychedelic and progressive rock styles.

Phantom Island was developed alongside Flight b741, with the latter featuring more energetic, rowdy tracks, while Phantom Island explores a more expansive and textured sound palette inspired by their 2023 performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. Frontman Stu Mackenzie described the album as an improvisational journey, stitched together from multiple takes and jams, with orchestral layers added later to enhance the emotional depth and colour of the songs.

The album features ten tracks, including the lead single “Phantom Island,” released in October 2024, which combines dreamy strings and jazzy flourishes with progressive rock crescendos. The second single, “Deadstick,” released in April 2025, has whimsical yet haunting melodies, accompanied by a creative music video. Other standout tracks like “Lonely Cosmos,” “Spacesick,” and “Grow Wings and Fly” highlight the album’s themes of isolation, transformation, and liberation.

To promote Phantom Island, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will embark on a 2025 tour across the US, Europe, and Canada, performing the album live with different 29-piece orchestras in each city. This ambitious orchestral tour will be complemented by traditional rock shows, culminating in a unique three-day camping festival, Field of Vision, in Colorado.

The album’s deluxe gatefold vinyl edition features stunning artwork by Jason Galea and photography by Maclay Heriot, with special packaging including a velvet laminated finish and a large pullout poster, making it a collector’s item for fans.
