Great Grandpa Returns After Five Years With New Album Patience, Moonbeam and Tour Dates

Great Grandpa, the Seattle-based indie rock group, are back after a five-year hiatus with Patience, Moonbeam, their highly anticipated new album set for release on March 28. After the release of Four of Arrows in 2019, the band had seemingly reached an impasse, with members pulled in different directions by the demands of life and personal projects. However, in 2023, they reunited, channeling their collective energy into what’s being described as their “most ambitious and confident-sounding album yet.” According to the band, Patience, Moonbeam represents not just their musical growth, but the deep spiritual connection they share, even through times of discord.

The album’s lead single, “Junior,” gives listeners a taste of what’s to come—an earthy, rootsy track that hints at the introspective yet expansive sound of the full record. The tracklist reveals a diverse collection of songs, from the gentle “Sleep” and “Never Rest” to the more robust, raucous sounds of “Top Gun” and “Doom.” The title track “Patience, Moonbeam” and closing song “Kid” suggest that the album will be both sonically rich and thematically grounded in the band’s journey of self-discovery and reflection.

In a statement, drummer Dylan Hanwright reflected on the band’s creative process, describing it as a series of moments when their individual energies align, creating a “beautiful” result. The idea of the band as “individual swinging pendulums” speaks to the ebb and flow of their chemistry, a sentiment that will surely resonate with longtime fans.

Great Grandpa also announced a slate of 2025 tour dates in support of the new album. Kicking off January 29 in Washington, DC, the tour will take them to key cities across the US, including Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The band will be joined by acts like Grumpy, Drench Fries, and Stephen Steinbrink, promising an intimate and exciting live experience for fans.

Patience, Moonbeam is out March 28 via Run For Cover Records. It’s an exciting new chapter for Great Grandpa, and from what we’ve heard so far, it promises to be a landmark release in their already impressive discography.
