Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas added another accolade to their impressive collection as they scooped the award for Best Original Song at yesterday’s Oscars (March 10).
Accepting the award for their song “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack, Eilish shared a candid moment about her pre-ceremony nerves. “I had a nightmare about this last night,” she confessed before expressing gratitude to the Academy. “I just didn’t think this would happen. I was not expecting this. I feel so incredibly lucky and honored.”
Acknowledging Greta Gerwig, the director of Barbie, Eilish expressed her admiration for the film’s impact. “This goes out to everyone that was affected by the movie and how incredible it is,” she added.
In a heartfelt moment, Eilish also thanked her childhood friend Zoe for their Barbie adventures and reminisced about her dance and choir teachers. “Miss Brigham, thanks for believing in me,” she said. “Miss T, you didn’t like me, but you were good at your job.”
The win marks Eilish and Finneas’ second Oscar, following their victory in 2022 for the Bond theme “No Time To Die.”
As the Oscars unfolded, host Jimmy Kimmel didn’t shy away from addressing controversies, calling out the Academy for snubbing Gerwig and Margot Robbie. Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr. secured his first Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer, and John Cena made a memorable appearance “naked” while presenting the award for Best Costume Design.
The Oscars 2024 continue to celebrate the best of cinema, with notable performances and heartfelt acceptance speeches marking the evening’s proceedings.
