You can’t fake the kind of honesty Power Jackson brings to a song. His verses carry the weight of real experience—honest, vulnerable, and unfiltered. With “Keep You Safe“ he turns inward, trading noise for nuance. In this interview, he talks about grief, love, inner peace, his diagnosis, and why the most powerful thing an artist can do is stay open.
Congratulations on dropping your new song “Keep You Safe”! What was the emotional seed that started this song?
The inspiration behind this song was my personal experiences from past relationships that I’m definitely sure all listeners can relate to. The deep longing and desire for protection, for loyalty, for true devotion from another being, in the sense that they won’t hurt you or take advantage of your vulnerability in any sense of way. This was a song for all listeners, including myself, to heal any long-unresolved internal wounds from past relationships where we were let down or hurt in this sense.
There’s spiritual imagery in the lyrics—‘God be our only judge,’ ‘say your vows, drink your blood.’ What does this symbolism mean to you?
I always try to infuse some spiritual messages in all forms of my art; unconditional love and union with another being is sacred, and so is our spiritual essence contained within the very fire that sustains us, being that of our blood. This message and symbolism is unity, and I am saying to my lover that I will fuse my very life force essence (my own blood )with yours, so that we are eternally connected throughout the cosmos.
The lyric “God be our only judge” is conveying to the listener that we are eternally young, wild and free; we don’t have to constrict our expressions or hold back from any of our desires, we have no one to answer to nor impress, apart from our creator, so we are inclined to do whatever we like and explore the depths of our devotion and love together to whatever form and degree that we desire.
How does the message in “Keep You Safe” evolve from what you explored in your previous release, “Secrets”?
The concept behind “Secrets” was that we all walk around with long-buried secrets or “skeletons in the closet’ that we don’t share with anyone, that we feel are discrediting or embarrassing, and so we store all of this guilt, fear, shame, and worry within us for no reason.
The concept behind “Keep You Safe” evolved from “Secrets”, in the sense that our lover can rest assured that they can share the totality of their mind, body, and spirit and express everything (unadulterated) to each other, and don’t have you hold back in any way. They can be their natural, authentic selves, and we can connect on the deepest level and share everything in our lives together (be totally vulnerable and transparent with one another), and we don’t have to have any fear or worry of getting hurt or let down in any shape or form.
You’ve often balanced street wisdom and spirituality in your music. Where does “Secrets” sit on that spectrum?
This is the best way I can break it down: “Secrets” are typically actions and behaviours that we have committed, that we feel are embarrassing or discrediting. These “Secrets” may cause us to feel fear, guilt, shame, worry, and doubt, from the perspective that they may be deemed as immoral or embarrassing, discrediting, or just plain negative.
So to sum it up and make it simple, both from a spiritual perspective and from a streetwise perspective, it is important to always practice constant mindfulness and self awareness, so that you prevent yourself from engaging in any actions or behaviours that are going to cause you to feel anything less than pure, positive and righteous.
Furthermore, if you are keeping “Secrets” deep inside of you that are causing you inner turmoil or conflict, let them out, share them, and so that you can heal your deep inner wounds and potential trauma, and so you can evolve, thus navigate better from both a street wise and spiritual perspective. The truth will always set you free, you feel me? Don’t keep yourself in bondage, in a self-made mental prison for no good rhyme or reason.
Which line in ‘Secrets’ was the hardest to write—or the most revealing?
I would have to say the very first verse, the way I opened up on the very first rap stanza on the track; the first few lines “floatin to the ceilin, I’ve been catchin all these feelings, I’ve been goin through some healing”.
Typically, I’ll write the hook/chorus first, and then all the singing/melody sections. Then, when I have the framework of the song (the canvas) ready, I’ll go ahead and write the 1st and 2nd verses. As soon as I started writing the first verse, I realized that I was going through a transformational process. I was purging and cleansing my mind, body, and spirit of all these storied cellular memories and energies, and typically one of my main outlets to channel and express this is through songwriting and making all types of art in general.
So when I started writing the first verse, I realized I was in a deep state of surrender to the universe, and I was going through a deep healing process, so that opened me up right away and tapped into my heart. This made me super vulnerable, and then I just let it all pour out on the track, as I painted all of the lyrics and revisions in this vibration moving forward. This shifted the train tracks, so to speak, and the overall underlying influence and emotional architecture of the entire track.
Despite the initial shock, it seems like you’ve embraced the change in your eye color with positivity. How has this eye transformation impacted your perspective on life, music, and your identity
Once again, I had to surrender to the universe and trust the process. Life has taught me that things always happen for the greatest and highest good for all, and so I had to accept what had happened to me, and just trust, you know what I’m sayin’? Just as I was about to embark on major things positively popping off in my life (things that I had been diligently upon and towards for the past 10 years), I was diagnosed with type 2 Waardenburg Syndrome.
This is a rare genetic condition, which causes genetic mutations within your body, and causes symptoms such as the pigmentation (color) change of your skin and eyes. So when this happened, I was forced to pause and sit on the sidelines and let the process runs its course, and let nature do its thing. This wasn’t exactly the easiest thing for me to do at that time, I was at the height of achieving major milestones and successes, and then the universe delivered me this unexpected blessing in disguise.
I say that, beauce this whole life experience forced me to sit back, rest and reflect, and to put things back into perspective, especially the gift of health that many of us take for granted every day. This majorly impacted my perspective on life afterwards, especially regarding music and my identity, because this whole experience caused me to shift my perspective on the things that truly matter and that are most important in life. I now infuse all of this into my artistic creations, and I hope that my fans really connect and resonate with this on a deeper level.

You’ve mentioned joking about being a ‘mutant alien.’ How important is it for you to maintain a sense of humor when faced with such a significant change?
I think it’s really important for all of us not to take life too seriously, despite any setbacks, obstacles, or overall challenges we face in this journey called life. I always try to maintain a sense of humor about everything, so when I was going through this process, and even up until right now, I can’t help but laugh at how marvelous this intelligent universe we live in truly is.
You know the lyric from Andre 3000 in the “Ms. Jackson” song, you know the line he says, “You can plan a pretty picnic, but you can’t predict the weather”, well, case and point right here, lol. Just goes to show you that your destined life plan is gonna happen no matter what, and you can’t stop or prevent it, you just have to accept, trust the process, and go with the flow, and keep a child’s mind and always be playful with life all throughout.

That has really helped me get to where I am today. Regarding the “mutant alien”, check this out; so the medical team that I was working with that ran my blood tests when I was diagnosed with type 2 Waardenburg syndrome ran my blood tests, and they didn’t believe the results, they checked the computer and printout, and they ran the results a 2nd time, simply because they had never seen results ike that ever before ( in a good way), in the sense that they thought it was humanly impossible to attain nor produce my blood metrics analysed.
They literally thought the devices and machines were malfunctioning and presenting errors, so they ran the tests a second time. They then told me that out of 5000 patients who had gone through the hospital and worked with their team before me, not a single person came even remotely close to achieving the blood test results that I presented. They were literally stunned and amazed, and ended up interviewing me after, asking me how I was able to even produce and create this internal environment that was within me.
They straight up told me that I was the healthiest patient that they had ever seen till date. Since I was a little kid, I always knew and felt I was different. I started referring to myself as a “mutant’ or an “alien’ all throughout my life, and my family and friends quickly accepted that fact and agreed, and started calling me the same. Those terms stuck with me from childhood till now. The only difference now is that I actually have the medical evidence and results to confidently say that I was right all along, lol.
What are you most excited about with this new chapter in your career and personal life? Are there any particular projects, collaborations, or messages you’re eager to share with your fans in the coming months?
Man, I literally had to take a breath as I read this question! There is so much, where do I begin?! You can expect a lot more new music coming this year, including collaborations with other mainstream music superstars, and just a lot more of me in general. Power Jackson will now be everywhere, literally! But I’ll keep the rest as a surprise and keep some “secrets” up my sleeve, since we were on that topic, lol.
My first message to my fans is that, from the bottom of my heart, I love each and every one of you! Thank you for supporting my Life’s Purpose! My second message to my fans is more about us, rather than me individually. My message is that life seems to be positively moving ahead fast for all of us; big changes and transformations are happening in our lives, so my message is to relax, breathe, and always remain deeply rooted, centred, and grounded.
Just take things one breath, one step, one day at a time. Destiny cannot be denied, we are all heading to where we are destined to be, so don’t stress and keep supreme faith in yourself and the universe.

As someone who’s experienced both personal and creative evolution, what advice would you give to artists who might be struggling with their own transformation, whether that’s a change in sound, appearance, or personal life?
My honest advice is once again, TRUST THE PROCESS. We all have to lose ourselves in order to fully find ourselves. We all have to search externally in this physical material world until we come back to our truth, only to be found in our internal energetic world. Life is an unfoldment, a beautiful blooming like a flower. Trust the river of life and where the water is taking you. You are on a journey, and your happiness is now, not some far-off destination.
Whether you’re going through a personal or creative transformation/evolution, just know that when the dust settles, it’s going to be more magnificent and beautiful than anything you could have remotely fathomed or imagined. There is a saying, “ Change is ugly in the beginning, messy in the middle, and beautiful in the end.” Just live through your heart, everything you need to achieve your destiny is already inside if you. Live through your heart.
Don’t always listen to the mind, it will tell you all sorts of things and lead you in all sorts of misdirections. But if you feel deeply in your heart, the feeling will never lie nor guide you wrong. You have to believe in yourself, FULLY, and always know that you are never alone, you are protected and guided beyond measure; all you have to do is tap into that connection through silence, stillness, and solitude. We all have this connection and internal guidance system, it’s already built into us from birth. The universe will always send you what you need, when you need it; you just have to be present to read the signs and messages.
