Coldplay Announces Gigantic Ahmedabad Show on World Tour

Coldplay is set to make history in January, announcing their biggest concert yet at the world’s largest stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad. On January 25, the British band will perform in front of 132,000 fans as part of their massive Music Of The Spheres World Tour. Tickets for this landmark show go on sale on Saturday, November 16, at noon IST. Joining Coldplay on stage will be a special guest, whose identity remains under wraps.

This concert marks Coldplay’s return to India after their 2016 performance at the Global Citizen Festival and is part of a larger Asia tour, with additional stops in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Mumbai. Fans in Abu Dhabi will see the band live for the first time since 2016, while Coldplay will play in Hong Kong for the first time since 2009 and in Seoul for the first time since 2017. Following the Asian leg, the tour heads to North America for shows in the U.S. and Canada in summer 2025, before returning to the UK for a series of concerts in August and September.

As part of the UK leg, Coldplay will donate 10% of proceeds to the Music Venue Trust (MVT), supporting grassroots music venues that have struggled in recent years. MVT CEO Mark Davyd praised the band’s initiative, highlighting Coldplay’s beginnings in the local music scene and acknowledging the importance of helping small venues sustain emerging artists. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, aware of the closures facing these spaces since the pandemic, noted that without such venues, new acts may never have the chance to build careers from the ground up.

Reflecting on his band’s journey from small venues to stadiums, Martin emphasized the importance of live music in nurturing artists’ growth. According to Martin, the rigorous path of playing in pubs and smaller venues is essential to reaching stadium-level skill and presence, a path taken by many popular artists today, including Oasis, Ed Sheeran, and Taylor Swift.

Since collaborating with producer Brian Eno in 2008, the band has embraced a philosophy of pursuing projects that feel authentic, leading them to experiment with varied sounds and themes. Addressing speculation about the future of Coldplay’s discography, Martin confirmed the band’s plan to stop recording new albums after their 12th. However, this won’t end their touring or potential releases of compilations and outtakes, marking a new chapter that feels right for the group.
