The Smashing Pumpkins are set to unveil their 13th studio album, titled ‘Aghori Mhori Mei’, next month. Led by Billy Corgan, the band announced that this new collection of 10 tracks will be available from August 2, serving as a continuation of last year’s three-part rock epic, ATUM. “Exploring the notion that returning to one’s roots is impossible, I’ve discovered this to be generally true,” shared Corgan. However, he added, “What if we ventured to do so regardless? Not by dwelling on the past with nostalgia, but as a strategy to progress; to determine if our musical approaches from the 1990-1996 period could still provoke fresh insights.”
The previous release, ATUM, was seen as a follow-up to the band’s 1995 iconic double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/The Machines of God. Following ATUM, which featured over two hours and 33 songs, Corgan re-entered the studio to pen, oversee, and record the upcoming album. The tracklist for Aghori Mhori Mei includes intriguing titles like “Pentagrams,” “War Dreams of Itself,” and “Goeth the Fall.”
This album reveal coincides with the announcement of the Smashing Pumpkins‘ upcoming fall tour across South and Latin America—their first in nearly a decade. Additionally, the band is currently performing in the United States, both as the opening act for Green Day on their Saviors tour and in headlining slots, with a show scheduled for July 29 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., and continuing until a September 28 performance at Petco Park in San Diego. Their tour in Latin America will commence on November 1 in Brasilia, Brazil.
