Halsey excitedly announced on Instagram this Wednesday, July 17, that their upcoming single, “Lucky,” will be released on July 26. The artist also unveiled the single’s cover art, which features a pink, blurred close-up of their face adorned with Y2K-inspired sparkles.
Drawing on nostalgic elements, Halsey’s cover art complements the single, which includes a nod to Britney Spears’ 2000 hit “Lucky.” This song touches on the more isolated aspects of fame. In a teaser, Halsey covers the chorus: “She’s so lucky, she’s a star/ But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking/ If there’s nothing missing in my life/ Then why do these tears come at night?” adding a personal touch to the well-known lyrics.
Earlier in the month, Halsey shared a snippet on Instagram, highlighting the song’s familiar chorus. They reminisced about their childhood connection to the song, noting, “When I was 5, it felt like Britney was singing right to me,” as they sported pink hair and a t-shirt emblazoned with the word “Lucky.” Halsey added, “24 years later, these words resonate differently. Love you forever.”
In June, Halsey confirmed the completion of their fifth studio album, following a hint they dropped through a mysterious new website titled “ForMyLastTrick.com.” This site features various illustrated badges, some of which seem to offer hints about the album’s content. Halsey’s latest album will follow their 2021 release, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Since then, Halsey has released several singles, including 2023’s “Die 4 Me” and 2022’s “So Good,” both of which made it onto the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
