Charli XCX has revealed that Lorde was the mastermind behind the ‘Girl, so confusing’ remix. Lorde recently joined Charli XCX on the remix of ‘Girl, so confusing’, which originally featured on Charli’s latest album ‘Brat‘. Previously, Charli mentioned how Lorde inspired parts of the track, notably her envy towards Lorde’s hit ‘Royals’.
Following ‘Brat’s’ release a few weeks earlier, Charli introduced a remix featuring the very artist that influenced the song: Lorde.
Charli shared that she had to navigate the sensitive process of letting Lorde know the song was about her and ensuring she was comfortable with it. “I attempted to arrange a meeting with her for nearly a year, and our plans kept shifting unexpectedly. It reflected the theme of the song. Ultimately, it just didn’t happen,” she explained.
“The day before the album was released, I left her a voice note,” Charli continued. “Lorde responded immediately, surprised by the revelation and apologetic. Then she suggested, ‘Maybe I should appear on a version of the song.’ It was her idea; I hadn’t even thought to ask.”
“While we had detailed plans for this release, not everything was set in stone,” Charli concluded. “Lorde’s remix of ‘Girl, so confusing’ is a prime example of that. It all came together in just three days.”
Upon its release in June, Lorde shared her deep appreciation for ‘Brat’ and Charli’s artistry: “It’s a privilege to be moved, transformed, and overwhelmed by her talent. There is no one quite like her. Brava and welcome Brat.”
