BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical Hits Broadway in 2025

BOOP! The Musical, a vibrant stage adaptation inspired by the beloved 1930s cartoon character Betty Boop, is set to make its Broadway debut in April 2025. The production, which originally premiered at Chicago’s CIBC Theatre, will grace a Shubert theater, with the specific venue to be announced soon.

Directed by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell, BOOP! features music by 16-time Grammy winner David Foster, lyrics by Tony nominee Susan Birkenhead, and a book penned by Tony winner Bob Martin. The musical chronicles Betty Boop’s journey from her origins as a two-dimensional, black-and-white cartoon to the lively, three-dimensional streets of present-day New York City.

Jerry Mitchell expressed his excitement about bringing the show to Broadway, stating, “Creating BOOP! with David, Susan, and Bob and premiering in Chicago last holiday season was a gift to all of us and our entire family. I can’t wait to bring Betty home to Broadway next spring.”

The Chicago production starred Jasmine Amy Rogers in the titular role, alongside a talented cast including Tony winner Faith Prince, Ainsley Melham, Erich Bergen, Stephen DeRosa, Angelica Hale, and Anastacia McCleskey. Details regarding the casting for the Broadway run will be announced in the near future.

The creative team behind BOOP! includes acclaimed designers such as David Rockwell (set design), Gregg Barnes (costumes), Philip S. Rosenberg (lighting), Gareth Owen (sound design), Finn Ross (projection design), and others specializing in hair, makeup, illusions, and orchestration.

Betty Boop, originally created by animation pioneer Max Fleischer, has enchanted audiences worldwide for nearly a century with her distinctive appearance and charm. In BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical, the iconic character’s desire for a simple day off evolves into a dazzling adventure filled with color, music, and love in the bustling metropolis of New York City, reminding everyone of their limitless potential.

Before its Chicago debut, Mitchell and Rogers discussed their approach to bringing this animated icon to life in an exclusive interview with Broadway.com.
