Norwegian indie-pop sensation Girl In Red, also known as Marie Ulven, is stirring excitement among fans with a hint of what could be the next big summer anthem. Taking to Instagram on January 4, the singer shared a lively video clip, playfully dancing to an unreleased song. The text overlaying the video was nothing short of confident, proclaiming, “Woow did I just make the song of the summer, I think so,” accompanied by the promising tag “2024 baby!”
This tease comes after her last release, the 2022 single “October Passed Me By”, produced by Aaron Dessner of The National. The track was a sequel to her 2018 single “We Fell In Love In October”, and followed her debut album “If I Could Make It Go Quiet” in 2021.
In an April 2021 interview, Girl In Red shared her evolving musical aspirations, expressing a preference for albums over singles and a desire to explore new sounds. During her performance at Reading & Leeds that year, she reiterated her commitment to experimentation, stating, “I’m working on those sounds still. I still don’t think singles are that interesting. It’s not gonna be metal and it’s not gonna be bedroom pop, but it’s gonna be Girl In Red.”
Girl In Red’s achievements extend beyond her musical releases. In 2022, she was honored with a Spellemann award (often likened to the Norwegian Grammy) for Album Of The Year, thanks to her 2021 debut album. This prestigious accolade was presented to her by none other than Billie Eilish at Coachella.
Besides her studio work, Girl In Red has also been gracing various stages with her presence. She performed at the previous year’s All Points East in London’s Victoria Park, sharing the lineup with notable acts like The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Angel Olsen, Amyl and the Sniffers, and more.
Fans are eagerly awaiting more details on this tantalizing summer track, ready to add it to their playlists for 2024. Stay tuned for more updates on Girl In Red’s musical journey.
