In an exciting revelation for fans, iconic rock band Guns N’ Roses is reportedly gearing up to drop a previously-unreleased single titled “Perhaps” from their Chinese Democracy era. The track is scheduled for an official release across all major streaming platforms on Friday, August 11.
Although no official statements have been made by the band about the impending release, an unexpected link briefly appeared on the Universal Music website, offering dedicated fans the chance to pre-save the song on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
The upcoming release of “Perhaps” marks a significant moment for the rock veterans as it will be their first release since the Hard Skool EP, a collection of four songs released in February of the previous year. This exclusive EP, available only on the band’s official store, featured new tracks “Absurd” and “Hard Skool,” alongside live versions of classics “Don’t Cry” and “You’re Crazy.”
“Perhaps,” akin to the EP’s title track, was conceived and recorded during the sessions for Guns N’ Roses’ last full-length album, Chinese Democracy, which debuted in 2008. Despite never being officially published by the band, an early demo version of the song found its way onto YouTube, giving fans a glimpse into the unreleased material.
The anticipation for new music from Guns N’ Roses has reached a fever pitch in recent months. Early signs of the impending release emerged when fans attending a show in Tel Aviv reported overhearing the band rehearsing “Perhaps” before the performance. Additionally, longtime manager Tom Mayhue hinted at forthcoming GNR music, comparing it to the iconic sound of their classic Appetite For Destruction album.
Mayhue disclosed, “I know that the band’s gonna start working on new music. They’ve got a bunch of stuff recorded already. So there will be new Guns N’ Roses music very soon. In fact, I think they’re trying to get a single out any day now, so you may hear something very, very soon… It sounds great. It’s a lot more kind of ‘Appetite’-orientated.”
Notably, Slash, the renowned guitarist of the band, also weighed in on the prospect of new music. During an appearance on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk show, he revealed his eagerness to record a new album and hinted at the band’s packed schedule.
“I wanna go in and cut a whole brand new record at some point, probably sooner than later. But other than that, we have stuff that we’ve still got to come out. We have one more tour left to do next summer, and then that’ll free us up to be able to go in and work on a new record.”
Beyond the music front, Slash teased additional projects on the horizon, sharing his plans for the upcoming months.
“I’m on tour with Guns N’ Roses until October, then in January I go out with my other band The Conspirators,” he mentioned. “I don’t wanna divulge too much, but I’m also doing a really exciting TV series in England. It’s an adaptation of a great book. You’ll find out what it is when the press release comes out!”
As anticipation builds for “Perhaps” and the potential for more new music from Guns N’ Roses, fans eagerly await the next chapter in the band’s legendary career.
