Isis Salam, the electro-rap legend and former member of Thunderheist, has returned with a new solo EP, 4U MY DEAR IN LIEU OF FLOWERS. The EP, which is set to be part of a three-part anthology of music, showcases Salam’s self-produced, mixed, and engineered tracks. With her unique blend of spoken and sung verses, Salam’s music is a worldly story of “strife, self-discovery and Black joy.”
The EP opens with “Good Life,” a warm deep house track that sets the tone for the rest of the project with its optimistic message. Salam repeats the mantra, “We gon’ get that good life,” over the track, which also gets sampled again on “Bills N Tings.” The EP features ten tracks, including collaborations with Chicago house legend Tyree Cooper and Kelvin Scholar.
For Salam, the EP is all about love. “Everything I do, I do it for the love,” she says. “If you’re reading this and considering taking that leap of faith and following your gut when it comes to your art, just remember: you too fly, not too fly baby.”
Born in Nigeria, Salam has lived in New York, London, and is currently based in Berlin. Her new EP is a reflection of her global experiences and is a testament to her growth as an artist. “This entire project has evolved into a living body of work,” she says. “It’s been insane wearing so many hats.”
4U MY DEAR IN LIEU OF FLOWERS is a gift to Salam’s fans and listeners. It is an appetizer of what is yet to come from the multi-talented artist. With her unique sound and vision, Salam continues to inspire and captivate audiences around the world.
