French DJ and composer, Thomas Bangalter, mostly known as one half of the former duo Daft Punk, announces the release of a new solo album called Mythologies. The upcoming 23-track record will come out on April 7 via Erato/Warner Classics, marking the singer-songwriter’s first independent orchestral work to date.
Choreographer Angelin Preljocaj first approached Bangalter in 2021 and commissioned him to work on the Ballet score that explores “contemporary rituals, along with the founding myths that shape the collective imagination.” Directed by Romain Dumas, the show premiered last summer thanks to the efforts of Preljocaj and the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine.
Mythologies examines “the folds of existence between ancient and modern beliefs.” It is a 90-minute composition, where Bangaltar steps away from his signature electronic sound and follows a more conventional approach, respecting “the large-scale traditional force of a symphony and embracing the history of orchestral ballet music.”
Before parting ways with Daft Punk bandmate Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Thomas Bangalter had contributed to Gaspar Noé’s Climax soundtrack in 2018.
