Two-time Academy Award-winner Robert De Niro is to star in his first TV lead role. The celebrated actor comes together with Netflix for a new political thriller mini-series titled Zero Day.
De Niro will also produce the show alongside Eric Newman (Narcos, The Watcher, Rebel Moon, Spiderhead) and the president of NBC News Noah Oppenheim (The Maze Runner, Jackie, and Allegiant).
The script will be based on a story penned by Newman, Oppenheim, and Michael Schmidt. Newman and Oppenheim who will executive produce and write Zero Day together have not disclosed any details about the project. The only confirmed information is that it is a political thriller and De Niro will be playing a former president.
Zero Day will begin a new era for Robert De Niro, marking his first-ever TV role. The forthcoming project may as well earn the actor another Emmy. De Niro had won one in 2017 for his role as Bernie Madoff in HBO’s movie The Wizard of Lies.
