Japanese composer, pianist, and record producer, Ryuichi Sakamoto, announces that he will debut music from the forthcoming record during a ticketed livestream concert at Tokyo’s 509 Studio, next month. The new solo album is called 12 and is expected to come out on January 17, 2023 via Milan Records.
12 is Sakamoto’s first solo studio album ever since the release of Async in 2017. Recorded between 2021 and 2022, the 12-track record has been a remedy for the Japanese composer amid his cancer treatment. Each composition was titled after the date in which they were written on.
Sakamoto revealed, “After I finally ‘came home’ to my new temporary housing after a big operation, I found myself reaching for the synthesizer. I had no intention of composing something; I just wanted to be showered in sound. I’ll probably continue to keep this kind of ‘diary.’”
