Mariah Carey claimed that she owns all of her previous master recordings at a time when Taylor Swift is being pressured to re-record her entire former discography owing to concerns around the ownership of her masters.
Carey casually revealed that she actually owns all the masters to her entire catalog when discussing a forthcoming TV show centered on her life, which is exceedingly unusual even for very well-known performers.
“I’m here to do anything we need to do. I own all my old masters,” the queen of Christmas told USA Today.
She continued by discussing the process of casting the perfect actor to play her and how a TV program on her life was created behind the scenes.
“I don’t think it’s about ‘cast the girl who sings the Mariah Carey style,’ whatever that is. It’s about casting a great actress with a somewhat similar look and just making sure the acting is there. Because we have the music – they can sing along to it.”
