New Orleans band Special Interest share a new video for “Midnight Legend,” featuring Mykki Blanco. The song is from the band’s third studio album Endure, which will be released on November 4th via Rough Trade. Directed by the non-conforming Alli Logout, the 7-minute visuals are mostly shot in a club.
Endure is a self-produced album recorded with James Whitten and Collin Dupuis. The LP includes song like “Love Scene,” “Foul,” and “(Herman’s) House,” which is dedicated to the Black revolutionary Herman Wallace.
Logout reveals that “Midnight Legend” is a love song for all the people who feel unvalued and can’t find love around them. The artist further explains that the track depicts the consequences of being unloved and what people do to get out of that distressing state, “The ways we numb ourselves or participate in high-risk behavior because we all feel so isolated and alone is also very much enabled by clubs, institutions, and party “friends.” This song is about listening to people who never actually get heard.”
Endure follows the release of Special Interest’s 2020 LP The Passion Of and their debut album, Spiraling, which included the Nina Simone tribute song “Young, Gifted, Black, in Leather.”
