The Weeknd has released the first teaser trailer for The Idol, his new HBO Max series. The Idol, starring Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye, depicts a female pop artist who falls in love with a Los Angeles club owner and cult leader.
The teaser promises the show is “the sleaziest love tale in all of Hollywood,” promising drug-fueled hookup scenes, rigorous dance practices, and plenty of power moves.
The Weeknd, Euphoria director Sam Levinson, and The Weeknd’s producing partner Reza Fahim co-created The Idol.
Along with Depp and Tesfaye, the cast also features Troye Sivan, Tunde Adebimpe from TV on the Radio, Jennie from Blackpink, Anne Heche, Melanie Liburd, Steve Zissis, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Hari Nef, and Nico Hiraga. Although no official release date has been revealed, the teaser video indicates that it will be “coming soon.”
