Colombian-American Hip-Hop artist Frank Vanegas has released a new single “What I Need” and is swiftly becoming a hit. Frank Vanegas has given several outstanding performances across New York City and has a devoted fan base as a result of his artistic expression. His music is a fusion of conscious, trap, and classic hip hop. In collaboration with Melaner, the two talented artists have created a one-of-a-kind tune that is impossible not to remember. Let’s hear what Frank Vanegas says about it!
Tell us more about the exquisite track that is “What I Need” and the inspiration behind it.
The beat is from a Nigerian producer, Skirmisher Beats, and I had an idea to mix genres. I’m a hip-hop artist; she’s a Latin artist- and the producer makes Afro-pop music; it just seemed like the perfect blend.
What do you want listeners to take away from the single?
I want them to enjoy it and feel energized. It’s feel-good music, stuff they can dance to and play for their kids; the real goal is to create music that can stand the test of time.
Who are your biggest musical influences? Would you say you’re at all like them?
I listen to all kinds of music, so it’s hard to point to a specific artist that influenced me the most. I think it’s just the spirit of certain genres that have guided and honed the direction of my work. The philosophies behind these self-expressions are what motivates me to continue creating and experiencing.
Where do you get your inspiration on days when you’re not particularly motivated?
What motivates me is life. Life, by itself- is enough to fuel any man’s creative engine. All these parts, the good, the bad, and the ugly, are all part of the same inventive process.
With all these artists out and about, how do you make sure that your sound is different and unique?
There was a specific period when I didn’t listen to anyone’s music- because I wanted to maintain my creative originality, but now- I find that I can draw inspiration from these creators with different imaginations from mine. It’s just adopting what works, what doesn’t- and then making it your own with your own- creativity.
What are your desired milestones as a musician?
I want to be able to touch a million people in my lifetime. Whether through alternative programs and foundations I can cultivate or through my music by itself- I want to be able to do what I love and make the world a better place for it. I want my music to give me enough so that I can give to others- and I think that should be the ultimate goal for everyone. Maybe the goal isn’t your music changing something, and maybe the goal isn’t a million people, but perhaps it’s your kindness- and maybe it’s your neighbor, your brother, your fellow human- that determines what you can get from this world. And it all comes down to- how many lives, do you have the capability- to touch and change? It’s a question worth asking, and it’s the one I found the answer to with my music.Follow Frank Vanegas on Instagram – Spotify – Twitter – YouTube
